There are so many aspects of web design that describing them all would cause the dizziness.

Wikipedia says: Web design is similar (in a very simplistic way) to traditional print publishing. Every website is an information display container, just as a book is a container; and every web page is like the page in a book. However, web design uses a framework based on digital code and display technology to construct and maintain an environment to distribute information in multiple formats. Taken to its fullest potential, web design is undoubtedly the most sophisticated and increasingly complex method to support communication in today’s world.

The process of web design utilize disciplines

My Competences:

• Markup languages (HTML, XHTML)
• Style sheet languages (CSS)
• Client-side scripting (JavaScript)

CMS (content management system), which I use (like Wordpress or Joomla) manage:

• Server-side scripting (such as PHP and ASP)
• Database technologies (such as MySQL and PostgreSQL)

I cooperate with developers in context of:

• Multimedia technologies (such as Flash and Silverlight)

Another 2 important aspect of Web design are accessibility and usability.

Accessible Web design
Accessible web site has to conform to certain principles and I follow them as long as it is the best for project. This principles includes things:

• Semantic markup (meaningful structure of the document, like: Headers, paragraphs etc.
• Valid code, warranty of proper structure of web. The best way to check web site, if it is valid is this: “Validator” (http://validator.w3.org/)
• Text equivalents for non-text components (images, multimedia)
• Hyperlinks, which make sense (avoid “click here”)
• CSS, rather than table-based layout.

Web usability

In general – web site should be easy to use for end-user. The user should be able use web site without any special training. Web site should be as easy as possible, as long as it meet targets.

1. Present the information to the user in a clear and concise way.
2. To give the correct choices to the users, in a very obvious way.
3. To remove any ambiguity regarding the consequences of an action e.g. clicking on delete/remove/purchase.
4. Put the most important thing in the right place on a web page or a web application.

4 crucial aspects of web design:

The content: the substance, and information on the site should be relevant to the site and should target the area of the public that the website is concerned with.

The usability: the site should be user-friendly, with the interface and navigation simple and reliable.

The appearance: the graphics and text should include a single style that flows throughout, to show consistency. The style should be professional, appealing and relevant.

The visibility: the site must also be easy to find via most, if not all, major search engines and advertisement media.
